Our Product – Marbrin Olive Growers
Continuing with my series of blog posts, I introduce to you today Marbrin Olive Growers in the Robertson Valley. This family run olive farm has been carefully chosen, keeping with my motto for the shop - supporting local farmers, small businesses and the home cooks who have a great product to offer.
Marbrin Olive Growers is a small family-run boutique olive farm nestled in the renowned Robertson Breede River Valley surrounded by the Langeberg and Riviersonderend Mountains. Established in 1997 by Pieter Coetsee, the farm is now run and managed by his daughter Briony Coetsee and life partner Clive Heymans. Together they are a formidable team, have won numerous awards and have been voted 6 out of 7 years as one of South Africa’s top 10 olive oil producers.
Marbrin Olive Farm uses the freshest olives and latest two-phase decanter technology, cold extraction temperatures and stainless-steel storage tanks to ensure that their olive oil is bursting with nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants, and freshness. This together with the unique terroir of the Robertson valley culminate in an extra-virgin olive oil of superior award-winning quality and exceptional flavour.
Being inland with clay soils and extreme temperatures, the olive oil is full and intense in flavour. Common notes are full and fresh aromas of newly cut grass, herbs and almonds along with a fruity palate of green apples, ripe olives and artichokes, all finished off with spicy hints of black pepper.
Besides producing the premium Extra Virgin olive oil, they also process their own unique range of table olives and tapenade. Marbrin Farm also offers farm tours and on-site tastings so say hello the next time you are out in the Robertson area.
